Harbourfront Centre is bringing its winter festival back to the Toronto waterfront. HarbourFrost runs from November 20 to December 20, and this year's edition pairs a Christmas theatre classic with fire performances, free train rides and free outdoor skating.

The season opens November 20

The festival opens on November 20 with the lighting of a 33-foot Christmas tree in Community Square. The opening includes holiday characters, fire pits and a performance by the InKloosiv Voices Choir.

Outdoor skating returns the same day, weather permitting. The Jumpstart Community Rink offers free skating on the waterfront through March.

A Christmas Carol on stage

The Shaw Festival's production of A Christmas Carol makes its Toronto debut at Harbourfront Centre's Fleck Theatre, running November 12 to December 23. The production is adapted by Tim Carroll and uses puppetry, a Toronto-themed advent calendar, traditional carols and audience participation.

HarbourFrost itself runs at Harbourfront Centre, 235 Queens Quay West. Admission and many activities are free, with select performances ticketed.
