Toronto election signs come down today — and the city will recycle them until November 12

The City of Toronto is reminding property owners, residents and candidates that all election signs on private property must be removed by today, Thursday, October 29. Candidates who posted signs on public property face the same deadline. The reminder comes in a City news release issued October 27, three days after Torontonians elected a mayor and council on October 26.
Signs do not have to go to landfill. All seven City Drop-Off Depots accept election signs for disposal or recycling until Thursday, November 12 — corrugated plastic (Coroplast), fibre-based paperboard, and plastic-film sleeve signs, plus wooden and metal stakes. The City asks residents to separate stakes, metal supports and screws from the signs before dropping them off, not to bundle corrugated plastic signs or mix materials, and to consolidate plastic sleeve signs in a clear plastic bag.
One more civic deadline for Toronto homeowners: applications for the City's 2026 property tax and utility relief programs — the Property Tax Increase Cancellation Program, the Property Tax Increase Deferral Program, the Water Rebate Program and the Solid Waste Rebate Program, for low-income seniors and low-income people living with disabilities — close Monday, November 2, 2026. Applications can be filed online through the City portal or by mail.
