At the House of Commons finance committee on Tuesday, October 27, Conservative MP Eric Lefebvre backed a motion to summon Prime Minister Mark Carney to testify. The Conservatives' stated case: a projected debt-interest cost of up to $83 billion a year, and Parliamentary Budget Officer projections of deficits exceeding $330 billion over five years.
Those figures are the motion's own, and the Chronicle reports them as such. The test that counts is the one already on the calendar: the federal budget lands Thursday, November 5, and what the government books there gets checked in The Record.
