Heritage Classic today: Canadiens face Jets outdoors in Winnipeg without captain Suzuki

Published October 25, 2026 · Last updated October 25, 2026

The Montreal Canadiens play the Winnipeg Jets outdoors today, Sunday, October 25, at 7 p.m. ET at Princess Auto Stadium in Winnipeg in the 2026 Tim Hortons NHL Heritage Classic. Captain Nick Suzuki is out with an upper-body injury sustained Tuesday against San Jose and is expected to miss 2–4 weeks.

Suzuki leads Montreal with 12 points (five goals, seven assists) in nine games, and the injury snapped his ironman streak at 546 games — only the second game he has missed since entering the NHL in 2019-20. Montreal (5-3-2) won its first game without him, 4–1 at Chicago on Friday, with Jake Evans recording three points. It is Montreal's fifth outdoor game and its first since 2017; the Canadiens are 2-2-0 outdoors.

Winnipeg made news Friday by trading goaltender Connor Hellebuyck to the New Jersey Devils for forwards Dawson Mercer and Nick Bjugstad, goaltender Nico Daws, the rights to prospect Alexander Command, and two draft picks. A pregame fan festival for ticketholders runs today from 12 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. CDT at the University of Manitoba U Lot. (NHL.com)
