Ottawa re-elects Sutcliffe with 44.65 per cent

Published Tuesday, October 27, 2026

Ottawa voters have given Mayor Mark Sutcliffe a second four-year term. The City of Ottawa's unofficial results give Sutcliffe 139,354 votes, 44.65 per cent, to 105,819 votes, 33.90 per cent, for Jeff Leiper. Turnout was 36.21 per cent, with all 824 tabulators reporting. The results are unofficial until the City Clerk declares them, expected on or before Friday, October 30.

Sutcliffe told supporters: "I promise you, I will work hard every day to live up to all of your expectations," and "I firmly and deeply believe that for Ottawa the best is yet to come." Prime Minister Mark Carney congratulated him on X, writing in part: "We've accomplished a lot together and now we have the opportunity to build on it." Sutcliffe campaigned on keeping property-tax increases to no more than 2.5 per cent in the first two budgets of the new term and on finding another $250 million in savings at city hall. Both pledges are now in The Record, which opens an Ottawa file today.
